Coordinated primary care requires all stakeholders in the healthcare sector
As Switzerland’s strongest healthcare network, we want to play an active role in shaping the healthcare system of tomorrow. We are working towards this ambition in a unique way through the Healthcare Professionals Initiative. In June 2026, this industry event, initiated by Galenica, brought together numerous representatives from all relevant areas of the Swiss healthcare sector.
More than 120 actively involved managers and experts discussed the challenges and opportunities of interdisciplinary collaboration as part of the Healthcare Professionals Initiative. The desire to work together to tackle the challenges in primary care shaped the constructive atmosphere throughout the day.
Consensus as the basis for change
Collaboration between different healthcare providers is already being trialled as part of numerous pilot projects. A recent example is the “Baselland care model”, in which pharmacies from the Galenica network are also involved. The task going forward is to develop these approaches systematically and translate them into sustainable, widely effective system solutions. A key success factor is to define standards, utilise existing regulatory leeway and ensure that implementation is coordinated.
Strengthening pharmacies as key players
Galenica firmly believes that pharmacies will play a key role in providing strong, patient-oriented and future-proof primary care in Switzerland. The Healthcare Professionals Initiative aims to raise awareness of the potential of pharmacies as easily accessible and competent point of contact in the healthcare system, and to strengthen their role within the care system in a targeted manner.
Focus on the next steps
Dialogue is a key starting point for the transition from good ideas to effective implementation. However, it is crucial to translate common objectives into concrete solutions. After all, coordinated care succeeds where structure, regulation and implementation are considered and aligned together – through collaboration between pharmacies, medical professionals, insurers, digital providers and policymakers. Galenica will continue to work towards this.
